Lodi Skiers take third at Lodi Invitational/2011

The Lodi High School Nordic ski season opened on Saturday December
18th with the Lodi Invitational Race at the Lakeland Hills Golf Course
trails.  About 110 skiers from five schools competed in this exciting event.
The high school race featured the popular Olympic style team pursuit in
which 2-person teams ski a 5 kilometer skating relay. Waukesha/ Peak
Nordic won both the girls and boys events with Madison taking second
and Lodi third. Plymouth/ Sheboygan and Stevens Point/ Central Nordic
rounded out the team results finishing 4th and 5th.

Lodi boys were led by Elliot Statz and Sam Taylor who finished fourth, just
missing the podium by 10 seconds.  “Elliot and Sam may have had the
best results for any Lodi boys over the history of the program. I am looking
forward to their continued success this year”, comments coach Dale
Fanney. The girl’s team was led by Sydney Endres who finished 8th
overall, followed by Paige Nichols (11th) and Tara Lang (15th).  Coach
Fanney states again,” Syd Endres is a gamer at race time and always puts
in a solid performance for our team.”

The Middle school races were dominated by Peak Nordic.  Peter Gundach
led the way for Lodi boys finishing in 8th place, & Leslie Erickson was the
first Lodi girl placing 9th.  Many of the Lodi Middle School skiers were
doing their first race.

The ski teams will break for winter vacation and race again in Iola on
January 8th.
