Skiers Speed Up at Lodi Invitational Meet
by Dale Fanney
The Lodi Girls XC Ski Team skated to a second place finish at the Lodi
Sprints Invitational 6 kilometer race this weekend at the Lodi Golf Course.
Nikki Rendler paced the girls with a 7th place finish followed by Sydney
Endres 8th and Rachel Vorlander 9th. Waukesha’s Peak Nordic won the
team event with a sweep of the top three individual places and Madison
was third followed by Plymouth/Sheboygan in fourth.
In the Boys event, Andrew Findora placed 6th overall with Sam Taylor and
Elliot Statz at 14th and 15th placing the Boys Team in Third place behind
Peak Nordic and Madison. Plymouth/Sheboygan was fourth and Iola fifth.
The middle school girls race was won by Lodi’s Paige Nichols followed by
Chelsea Buchanan in 5th and Rachel Porter 9th. The boys middle school
race ended with a photo finish between Lodi’s Jacob Hargis and
Waukesha’s Matt Kerr who beat Hargis by a ski length.
Skiing conditions for the race were considered excellent as the recent
snowfall and perfect temperatures combined to produce a fast exciting
skating course. The Community Ski Trails at the golfcourse now extend
out behind the high school for a total distance of 8 kilometers.
The ski team’s next race is the MadNorSki Invitational in Madison on
January 5th.
